Rev. Dr. Derek Austin
Rev. Dr. Derek Austin currently resides in Lakeville, CT, and is the Director of Clergy Development Programming for Chautauqua Institution in Western N.Y. Prior to accepting this position, he served several churches in New England as an Intentional Transitional Minister for ten years. Although being raised in upstate NY, Derek went to school on the West coast and lived most of his adult life in San Diego, CA, until relocating to New England in 2005.
With a Bachelor degree in Music and a Master of Arts in Education, Derek taught vocal music at a performing arts magnet school in southern California in the 1990’s, and was the Conductor of a professional San Diego civic Chorus, before pursuing his Doctoral studies at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, a part of the Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley, CA. Derek has also served on several boards in New England that both resource and explore the changing nature of ministry, church life, and non-profit dynamics. Leadership development has been a cornerstone of Derek’s ministry and professional life, honing an expertise in change management, transitional dynamics, and corporate goals assessment.
Enjoying an active life, Derek can be found during his free time hiking a mountain, kayaking a lake, attending a staged play, or watching old episodes of West Wing.
